How we pick our winners

Most VR adult content review sites operate the same way: affiliate links dressed up as editorial, a top ten list that hasn’t been updated since the headset it references was discontinued, and scores that suspiciously correlate with commission rates.

We built VRPornReview to be the resource we couldn’t find when we started exploring VR adult content. That means reviews based on real testing, consistent criteria, and honest conclusions regardless of who’s paying us a referral fee. Here is exactly how we decide what earns a recommendation.

Step 1: We Test With Real Accounts on Real Hardware

Every platform we review is accessed through a standard user account. No press passes, no pre-loaded credits, no curated demo reels. We experience the platform exactly the way a paying subscriber does.

We test free trials and free tiers first to establish the baseline experience. Where the best content or features sit behind a paywall, we upgrade to a paid tier. We do not review platforms we cannot properly access and test.

We also test across multiple headsets where possible. A platform that delivers on Meta Quest but performs poorly on PlayStation VR or PCVR setups gets marked down accordingly. Headset compatibility is not a footnote in our reviews; it is a core part of the score.

Step 2: We Apply a Consistent Testing Framework

Comparing platforms fairly requires testing them the same way. We use a standardised evaluation process for every site we review rather than approaching each one fresh with different expectations.

Our testing process covers:

• Browsing the full content library to assess size, variety, and how regularly it is updated
• Watching a representative sample of content across different categories, studios, and release dates
• Testing streaming performance across multiple sessions at different times of day
• Downloading content where available and assessing file quality and organisation
• Testing the platform across at least two different headsets to evaluate compatibility breadth
• Using the site interface across both desktop and in-headset to assess usability in both contexts
• Attempting to contact customer support with a genuine query to assess responsiveness

We do not base scores on a single session or a single piece of content. Platforms are evaluated over time.

Step 3: We Score Against Fixed Criteria

Every platform is measured against the same set of criteria. Scores are not adjusted based on a platform’s reputation, how long it has been operating, or what commission it offers us.

• Video Quality and Production Standards The resolution, stereoscopic depth, field of view, and overall production quality of the content available. This is the central reason people subscribe to VR adult platforms and carries the most weight in our overall score. We distinguish between a large library of mediocre content and a smaller library of genuinely high-quality material.
• Content Library Size and Variety How much is available, how regularly new content is added, and how broad the range is across studios, styles, and categories. We also note whether the library is growing or stagnating.
• Headset Compatibility Which devices are officially supported, how well the platform actually performs on each, and how much technical setup is required. Platforms that work out of the box on the widest range of hardware score higher than those that require workarounds or offer a degraded experience outside of one device ecosystem.
• Streaming and Download Performance Buffering behaviour, load times, adaptive streaming quality, file size options for downloads, and whether offline viewing is available. Performance is tested at standard broadband speeds rather than ideal conditions.
• Platform Usability The quality of the interface on both desktop and in-headset, how easy content is to find and filter, and the overall experience of navigating the site day-to-day. A great library loses value if the platform makes it difficult to find what you want.
• Pricing and Value What each subscription tier costs versus what it delivers. We assess free tier generosity, monthly and annual pricing, and whether the content volume and quality justify the cost relative to competing platforms.
• Privacy and Billing Practices How the platform processes payments, whether billing is discreet on bank statements, what the stated data retention and privacy policies are, and how straightforward the cancellation process is. Platforms with opaque or concerning practices are flagged clearly.
• Track Record and Reliability How long the platform has been operating, how it handles user complaints and billing disputes, whether it honours stated refund or access policies, and what consistent patterns emerge from broader user reports over time.

Step 4: We Verify Before We Publish

Once testing is complete, the reviewing team member writes up their findings. Before publication, that write-up is checked against our testing notes, cross-referenced with community feedback to identify experiences that differ meaningfully from our own, and verified against the platform’s current live state.

Pricing, features, and compatibility claims are confirmed against what is actually available at time of publication. Where something cannot be independently verified, we say so rather than repeating marketing copy.

Step 5: We Assign a Verdict

Each platform receives an overall score and a plain-language verdict that captures the single most important thing to know about it. Platforms are placed into one of four categories:

• Recommended: Consistently strong across most criteria. Worth the subscription cost for most users.
• Worth Trying: Solid in key areas with limitations that matter depending on your setup or priorities.
• Proceed With Caution: Notable weaknesses, inconsistent performance, or concerns worth understanding before signing up.
• Not Recommended: Falls short across multiple criteria, poor value relative to alternatives, or raises trust concerns.

A platform’s affiliate status does not influence which category it falls into.

How We Keep Reviews Current

VR technology moves quickly. A platform that was mid-tier two years ago may have significantly improved its library and streaming infrastructure. A formerly strong platform may have stagnated while competitors moved ahead.

We monitor platforms on our recommended list for significant changes and schedule re-reviews when pricing, library size, headset support, or quality shifts substantially. Reviews that may no longer reflect current platform performance are flagged until a re-review is complete.

What We Do Not Do

We do not accept payment to change or improve scores. Platforms cannot buy a better rating, a place on a recommended list they did not earn, or the removal of critical coverage.

We do not review platforms we cannot properly test. If access is restricted or the platform is too early in its development to evaluate fairly, we wait.

We do not adjust verdicts based on affiliate relationships. Platforms we recommend are ones we would recommend regardless of commission. Platforms we rate poorly remain rated poorly regardless of whether they have approached us for promotional arrangements.
